2018 Round 2 NIAA Grants now open

To mark the 100th anniversary of its first issue in January 1923, the British Journal of Anaesthesia (BJA) is issuing a new grant call for History PhD projects, where a 3 year non-clinical studentship will be funded and will enable a home-EU-national student to register for a PhD at a UK University (for take up in 2019). Project proposals that utilise the existing BJA archives in order to complete details of the journal's history will be considered.

The project should be a collaboration between a History and an Anaesthetics (University or NHS) Department. It is anticipated that the thesis would in due course form a monograph to be part of the BJA's 100th anniversary celebrations. For more detailed information on criteria and an application form, click here. If you would like to discuss the history project in more detail please contact Prof J M Hunter.

Applications for scientific studentships for non-clinical PhD students are also welcome - please indicate on the form if you are applying for this.

Applications are also being invited in this round for funding from the BJA/Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA)/College of Anaesthetists of Ireland (CAI) who for the first time are jointly offering up to €100k (£89.5k) towards international collaborative research projects, where applicants should be from both Eire and Great Britain & Northern Ireland and the project must involve real, credible collaboration - with one institution taking the lead and managing the allocated funding between the project partners. Click here for more information on criteria and an application form.

There is also the standard BJA/RCoA Project Grant category open to applications for UK research projects which are not collaborative. Up to £70,000 or (exceptionally) up to £100,000 per grant is available. More information and application form are available here.

All applications for all grants available in this round must be submitted online by noon, Friday 21 September 2018
