The intensive care unit cares for approximately 1000 ventilated patients annually.
The acute hospital admits approximately 25000 patients annually and from these patients it is possible to recruit patients who have infection but not sepsis.
There is a Trinity College Dublin research laboratory on the hospital campus with collaborative molecular biologists.
