Funding Opportunities
New AAGBI/Anaesthesia Award
The Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain & Ireland and Anaesthesia will be awarding new research grants in September 2014.
Priority will be given to proposals that support the Association's research aims:
- Patient safety
- Innovation
- Clinical outcomes
- Education and training
- Related professional issues (e.g. standards and guidelines, working conditions, medico-legal issues)
- The environment
Any amount of funding may be sought, but applications will be judged on 'value-for money' as well as scientific credibility. Awards will be made via the NIAA and, if appropriate, will be eligible for NIHR portfolio status.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 8 August 2014.

BJA MRC Jointly Funded Clinical Research Training Fellowships
The British Journal of Anaesthesia is delighted to invite applications for up to four BJA MRC jointly funded Clinical Research Training Fellowships. These prestigious awards are available to clinically active anaesthetists. The programme supports clinicians to undertake a higher research degree (PhD or MD). Medically qualified applicants who obtained their PhD some time ago may also be considered.
The next call opens on 29th July 2014 with a submission deadline of 9th September 2014 towards a take-up date in April to September 2015.

Small Grants & Awards
The NIAA has several small grants funded by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for the purpose of supporting research, education or travel connected with the study of anaesthesia. Priority will be given to educational projects, the presentation of original work or the provision of education to developing countries. Please click here for further details.
Applications are also invited for the Macintosh Professorship, Maurice Hudson Prize and the Payne Stafford Tan Award.
NIHR Health Services and Delivery Research
The NIHR HS & DR programme currently has three calls open for commissioned workstreams. These are on dementia services, leadership development in health and care, and the use and usefulness of patient experience data.

The Health Foundation - Insight 2014
The Health Foundation is calling for researchers to submit ideas on how new technologies and data can be used to increase the safety, efficiency and overall quality of UK health and care services. NAP5 Professional Launch - 10 September 2014
A full-day's educational meeting, presenting the Fifth National Audit Project from the RCoA and the AAGBI. The day will present the largest ever study of Accidental Awareness during General Anaesthesia.

Please save the 30th September 2014 for the Anaesthesia and BJA Peer Reviewers' Workshop which will be held at the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Bookings will not be taken until mid-July and details will be posted on the NIAA website as they become available.
Anaesthesia and Perioperative Care PSP Survey
A quick reminder that this survey is open until the end of July.
The survey forms a key stage in the Anaesthesia and Perioperative Care Priority Setting Partnership with the James Lind Alliance, and is an opportunity for patients, carers and clinicians to identify what they feel are the important research questions related to research in anaesthesia.
The survey only takes 5 - 10 minutes to complete and we are keen to receive your questions to ensure that we identify topics that will make a real difference to patient care.
