NAP7 Clinical Lead
Jasmeet Soar is the NAP7 Clinical Lead. He works as a consultant in Anaesthetics & Intensive Care Medicine at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust.
He has a major interest in cardiac arrest. His roles include past chair of the Resuscitation Council UK, chair the ALS Task Force of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation, and Editor of Resuscitation.

I am a full time DGH consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.
I have been fortunate to have been centrally involved in five Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA) National Audit Projects: as clinical lead for NAP3 and 4 (NAP3 - epidurals/spinal anaesthesia, NAP4 - airway management) and as co-lead and director of the program for NAP5-7 (NAP5 - accidental awareness during general anaesthesia - undoubtedly the most 'patient facing' of all NAPs to date - NAP6 - perioperative anaphylaxis and NAP7- perioperative cardiac arrest which will launch in May 2020). These big projects involve the nation's anaesthetists collaborating to shine a light on patient-centred aspects of anaesthetic practice and safety. They are a form of professional-citizen science and are recognised to have changed the landscape of UK anaesthesia clinical practice and anaesthesia research engagement.
Like many colleagues I have an overall interest in improving safety and quality in anaesthesia and intensive care using a bottom up approach. I have been honoured to be awarded the RCoA Macintosh Professorship 2012-13, the Difficult Airway Society Professorship 2014, an honorary Professorship in Bristol University and several other prizes for which I am grateful and humbled.

Dr Seema Agarwal is a cardiac anaesthetist and intensivist at Manchester Royal Infirmary. She represents the Association of CardioThoracic Anaesethetists and Critical Care on the NAP 7 steering group.
Dr Richard Armstrong

Richard is an Academic Clinical Fellow in Anaesthetics in the Severn Deanery and co-authored the successful NAP7 topic proposal.
Dr Jeremy Cordingley
Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine
Jeremy Cordingley qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1986. He trained in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine in London and was appointed as a consultant at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London in 2000. In 2016, he moved to Peri-Operative Medicine at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, where he is lead for ICM. His main clinical interests are cardiothoracic critical care and extra-corporeal cardiovascular and respiratory support.
He is an FICM Board Member and examiner. He serves on the FICM Equivalence Committee providing advice to the GMC on applications for recognition of specialist training, and is Deputy Chair of the Professional Affairs and Safety Committee.
Ms Laura Cortes

I work at the Royal College of Anaesthetists, where I coordinate the Health Services Research Centre and the National Audit Projects amongst other projects.This is my second NAP, as I started work during the 6th National Audit Project on Perioperative Analphylaxis. I will be the day to day contact for local coordinators.

Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at North West Anglia NHS Trust. I am the Honorary Secretary Elect for the Association of Anaesthetist whom I am representing on this stakeholder group. I am the Clinical Lead for Intensive Care and have written Hospital policies on post cardiac arrest care on ICU. I am interested in the prognostication in certain patients groups, for example post cardiac arrest and devastating Brain Injury.
Outside of work I am a passionate Welsh Rugby supporter, a keen road cyclist and have just bought a stand-up paddle board!

Ms Jenny Dorey

Jenny has been a practising hospital pharmacist for most of her career, including 20 years as chief pharmacist in a large teaching hospital and pharmaceutical advisor to a strategic health authority. Now retired from the NHS she has been a member of RCOA lay committee for several years, involved particularly in supporting research, quality improvement and perioperative care. High quality safe, effective and patient focused care has always been her priority, delivered by a multidisciplinary and multiprofessional team.
Ms Sharon Drake
RCoA Director of Clinical Quality and Research
Sharon Drake is Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Clinical Quality and Research at the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA). She is responsible for an ambitious programme of healthcare improvement and patient safety, which includes the development and delivery of national clinical guidelines and accreditation, national clinical audits and QI programmes and projects.
Sharon has worked in the education and healthcare sector for the last 24 years, both as an educator and a senior manager. The last seventeen years have been spent working at Board level with two of the largest medical Royal Colleges.
Sharon is also the College Director for the newly developing Centre for Perioperative Care, a cross-specialty centre dedicated to the promotion, advancement and development of perioperative care, for the benefit of both patients and the healthcare community.

Simon Finney is a Consultant in Intensive Care and Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London. His interests are cardiothoracic critical care, extra-corporeal support including eCPR and resuscitation.
Dr Andrew Kane

Andrew is currently an anaesthetic registrar and HSRC Fellow based at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. He one of three HSRC Clinical Research Fellows working on the NAP7 project. His research interest in cardiovascular science developed during his PhD and this continues with perioperative cardiac arrest, the theme of NAP7, under the guidance of Dr Jas Soar, Prof Tim Cook and the wider HSRC team.

Prof Iain Moppett

Iain is an Associate Professor and Honorary Consultant Anaesthetist at the University of Nottingham and Nottingham University Hospitals.
He has served on the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Anaesthesia since 2010. He has been the BJA Grants Officer and a member of the NIAA Research Council since 2011. He has previously been College Tutor at Queen's Medical Centre, and is the Training Programme Director for Academic Anaesthesia in Nottingham.
Iain's primary academic interests are in improving outcomes for older patients undergoing surgery and in perioperative patient safety. This work has previously focused on risk stratification, impact of perioperative care process and clinical trials in hip fracture, and more recently has been investigating delirium and post-operative cognition. His safety work encompasses ergonomics of anaesthetic practice and the risks associated with surgical Never Events.
Iain is a member of the NICE Quality Standards group for hip fracture and a regular member of the British Orthopaedic Association Hip Fracture peer review team. He has also provided external reviews of Never Event investigations to regional hospitals.
Iain is married to Sarah, a divisional nurse in Nottingham and is kept busy with two daughters, music and running.
Dr Ronelle Mouton
Vascular Anaesthesia Society of Great Britain and Ireland
Dr Ronelle Mouton trained in Anaesthesia in the South West. She is a consultant anaesthetist at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, where she is the lead for anaesthesia research. Ronelle is an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Bristol and chair of the Vascular Anaesthesia Society of Great Britain & Ireland (VASGBI).

Gemma has been a consultant anaesthetist at North Bristol NHS Trust since 2015, having trained in the Severn Deanery and graduated from the University of Bristol Medical School. Gemma has clinical interests in vascular and neuroanaesthesia. She is a council member for the Neuroanaesthesia and Critical Care Society, and is representing this stake-holder group on the NAP 7 panel.
Prof Jerry Nolan
Resuscitation Council (UK)
Jerry Nolan is a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine at the Royal United Hospital, Bath, Professor of Resuscitation Medicine at the University of Warwick, and Honorary Professor of Resuscitation Medicine at the University of Bristol, UK. He trained at Bristol Medical School (MB ChB 1983) and undertook anaesthesia and critical care training in the UK in Plymouth, Bristol, Bath and Southampton, and at the Shock Trauma Center, Baltimore in the United States.
Jerry is Chairman of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), past Chairman of the Resuscitation Council (UK), and the immediate past Co-chairman of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR). Jerry is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Resuscitation.
Jerry's research interests are in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management, and post-cardiac arrest treatment - he has authored over 300 original papers, reviews and editorials on these topics. Jerry remains a full-time clinician and his clinical time is divided equally between anaesthesia and intensive care.
Dr Fiona Oglesby

Fiona is an anaesthetic registrar in the Severn Deanery. She co-presented the successful NAP7 topic proposal of peri-operative cardiac arrest. She has an interest in paediatric anaesthesia and has previously worked for the regional paediatric retrieval service.
Mr Balwant Patel

Torn between a career in physics or geology, Bal was fortunate to join the oil industry in the late seventies where he was able to combine the two disciplines. A brief stint in the Yorkshire Dales looking for dangers to coal mining, led to a career involving short stays around the globe looking for oil and gas. Progressing (?) to middle management confirmed his preference for a technical career which involved some teaching and a lot of mentoring. Having spent the last 15 exciting years in a specialist mergers and acquisitions team and having endured several boom and busts cycles in the oil business, Bal decided to take early retirement in 2015. Volunteering as a teacher/mentor/lay person has been a great privilege allowing him to give something back to the community. Areas of RCoA work and involvement include accreditation and patient safety.

Mr Lee Varney

Lee Varney is an Anaesthesia Associate based at University College London Hospital (UCLH) - a post he has held since qualifying in 2008. He is part of the faculty for trainee Anaesthesia Associates at UCLH and is an honorary clinical teaching fellow at University College London. Lee is a board member for the Association of Anaesthesia Associates (AAA) and represents the AAA on the NAP 7 steering and review panel. Previous to his career in anaesthesia, he has worked in various NHS healthcare settings in London as a recovery and intensive care nurse, though he moved originally from Devon to study piano at the Royal college of Music.
Ms Sandra Ward

Sandy is an experienced Cardiothoracic Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) who now works full time as a lecturer in BSc Operating Department Practice at the University of Hull. Sandy is module lead for both preoperative and anaesthetic intervention and Personal Professional Development, along with being the ODP lead trainer for moving and handling and Intermediate Life Support (ILS) for students and registered professionals alike. Sandy's areas of interest and research include preoperative prehabilitation/ optimisation by way of carbohydrate loading. Further to the duties required as a lecturer, Sandy also plays an active role as a member of the College of Operating Department Practitioners Education Standards Committee, recently involved in the writing of new mentorship standards for ODP's.
